Meet Our Art Teacher

Mrs. Barbara Norman

I am thrilled to be the Art teacher at Ahoskie Elementary School. I look forward to providing activities in which your child can learn to explore and appreciate our world through the visual arts.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts Education(PreK-12th ) from Norfolk State University. I am currently certified by the state of Virginia and North Carolina. I love children and I enjoy looking at the world through their eyes or should I say seeing the world from their perspective. I have been teaching for 37 years, from PreK and to 12th grade(wherever the need arises.

I am a member of the National Art Education Association, which keeps me current with the latest trends and issues in art education. I continue to work as a professional artist in my spare time and I am the founder and owner of Brushstrokes by Barbara.

My work has been exhibited at The Waterside, Norfolk Public Library, Lynchburg Museum of Fine Arts, Norfolk State University(Wise Gallery), Old Dominion University and also featured in the Virginian-Pilot and Roanoke-Chowan Herald Newspaper. In 2007-2008 I was selected as Ahoskie Elementary School's "Teacher of the Year''. Children are certainly a gift from God. As a mother of four, I value your children as much as I do my own.
